blog post #6- silent Questions

1. I remember thoses long summer days when I was around 8 years old. I had a very close friend named Nickoles. He had short brown hair and a freckled face. Most days he would gather up his bugs, dinosars, and animals and I would gather up my several horses and we would sit in my front yard next to my drive way and play for hours until either one of us had to go in for the day.
3. I remember back in sixth grade when my siser and i lived with our mom for the year in Klamithfalls. We lived on a street with only one other person named Bob but we didnt get to know him very well becuase he was much older and didnt come out much. i loved the weather there, in the summer it was vary hot and dry while the winters were very cold and we had snow clear past our knees. We had 11 acres so during the summer mostly my brother, sister and I would go on long walks to explore the woods around our house.

7. racism- the belief that some races are inherently better than others.

sexism- discrimination by members of one sex against the other based on the assumption that one sex is superior.

   ageism- discrimination based on age.

   classism- discrimination based on class.

All 4 play a role in human destrutiveness by putting other people down making them scared, self conscience, ashamed and even to the piont of killing them selves.

Cheerleading tryouts

The morning came for cheerleading tryouts. I was overwhelmed with all the nerves and excitement building up inside 0f me as I quickly dressed, did up my hair and my makeup. Once I was ready I ran across the hall and quietly awoke my step mom, Kyla, asking if she would watch me go over my routine before leaving.

When I arrived at the high school, I went up to the wrestling room where several other girls were stretching and practicing the dance, cheer, and their jumps. As I sat there stretching, I got even more nervous, almost to the point of shaking. I decided to go practice with a small group of four girls that would be trying out with me, to help calm myself down.

After everyone warmed up we all headed downstairs to the gym where we anxiously awaited our turn. My group was third up the tumbling and jumps. This didn’t stress me out too much, besides the fact that I had no tumbling what so ever, not even a cartwheel! I became more nervous when we waited patiently to perform the cheer that we were taught. We were asked to do the cheer three times which was ok at first, until I messed up during the second time. This caused me to become even more nervous and even a little frustrated when we went to the station were we finally did a dance and the fight song. I had never really danced before, so it was hard for me to open up and just dance. Unfortunately, because of this I messed up several times causing me to break down in tears when we were finished.

Later that day, after some encouraging words from Kyla who had watched me with the rest of my family; I became anxious to find out if I had actually made the team. Around 6:30 pm that day, I got a phone call from the head couch letting me now that I had made the team. Very calmly I told her how excited and thankful I was for being part of the squad. When I hung up the phone, I ran clear across the house and all the way up stairs where I excitedly jumped up and down as I told the rest of my family the good news.

Blog Post #4- Text Messaging… Does it help or hinder student writing?

I love text messaging. I have recieved unlimeted texting about two mounthes ago and dont know what i would do with out it. On average I send around 20 to 25 text a day. I usely text two or three people a day not counting my parents. I believe text messaging does not make a difference in terms of my ability of writing well. Most teachers and staff members dont want text messaging, but kids seem to do it anyways. texting has become such an every day thing in our lives and lanuage. Today you can go to the book store and find books were there is nothing but text messaging in it. Texting is lessenig the amount of time we talk to poeple face to face, causing some people to  become less confident talking to others person to person.

Blog Post #3-Independent reading-New Understandings

After reading about half of my book ‘Hope Rising’ by Kim Meeder I have a better idea of emotionally abused children and animals and how unconditional love can give someone a second chance.  A quote from this book that stood out the most to me was ‘what appeared that day to be the destruction of a stony prison, the release of a tender, captive soul-the end of a silent world-was really just the beginning.’  I found this quote on page 35 in the short story ‘The Beginning’.

Blog Post #2-Blogs? What’s a Blog?

I believe blogs are a way of talking to other peaple about things like books, music, school work,or just about anything you can imagin. I have heard of blogs like myspace and facebook from friends and family, but haven’t actually had one my self.  I am a bit slow when it comes to the computer, but am for the most part comfortable with it.  I dont go on the computer no more that a few times a week to check my email, do homework, or just look up random things like quotes.  Im not a big fan when it comes to writing unless its about something i care about or im really in the mood to write; which is not very often.  I have found that i like to write quotes and poems, but havent writen any since lit. class of last year.  I believe people are so concerned about kids’ safety when it comes to the internet, because no matter what you do your stuff is not confidential because at any time anyone can hack into your files and read what they want or see what they want. Yes the internet can be dangerous if you are not careful about what you write about your self or who you talk to.  Many of my friends have myspace so they generaly go on the computer to chat whit friends or do homework.  I think the blogs are a great idea, it gives students a chance to talk with other kids in the same class and to improve their typing skills.

blog post #1-independent reading-book selection

The book that Im reading right now is called Hope Rising by Kim Meeder. I choose this book because, it was given to me by my grandma, and it sounded like a great book. This book is about a ranch called, Crystal Peacks in central Oregon. Kim and her husband Troy rescue abused and neglected horses and pair them with disadvanteged childeren. This book caught my attention because it was based on the true storys of kids who learned how to love and be loved agian. My grandma read this book before I did and she told me that she had a hard time putting this book down, even when she came to parts that made her breakdown in tears. A few exampales from this book are, how a mute girl speaks for the first time, a defiant teenager teaches a horse to trust agian and learn to love.  A rescued horse gives an old man his last wish. So far this book has been a great plesure to read.
